The story of the Church developed from an unlikely starting point. A crucified Messiah was seen by many as ridiculous if not offensive. Yet, the emerging faith and community stood in solidarity with the poor and downtrodden. By the end of the fourth century, it had become the dominant faith within the Roman Empire. This was a remarkable transformation and the course will explore the consequences of this. It will focus on the ways the church has been a voice for the oppressed or exhibited the characteristics of the powerful as it has grown and changed through its history.

This course can be taken as part of the Certificate in Theology.  Please note you can enjoy the course without doing an essay.
