Cathedral Closures

To ensure your visit is enjoyable and well-planned, we try to provide information about any planned closures or disruptions that may affect your Cathedral experience. Thank you for your understanding.

Below you will find upcoming closure dates and reasons for future disruptions:
Date Time Area Reason

Every Sunday until 19 July

2.45pm-4pm The Nave Evensong rehearsals

Wednesday 20 May

10am - 2.30pm The Nave Young People Puppet Theatre Performances
Please note:

Our wonderful organ requires tuning once a month to keep it in tip-top condition. This inevitably also means some intentionally non-harmonic, and loud sounds which you may wish to avoid. The next organ tunings will take place on Tuesday 9 June 2026.
On concert days sound checks will take place between 2pm and 3.15pm. Sound checks are noisy by nature, so please time your visit differently if you are seeking peace and quiet.

Maintenance and Restoration

Expand
Occasionally, certain areas of the Cathedral may be temporarily closed for essential maintenance and restoration work. Our priority is to preserve this historic site, and while we strive to minimize disruptions, some closures may be necessary.

Filming

Expand
St Albans Cathedral is a popular location for filming. While we do our best to accommodate filming crews without impacting visitors, there may be occasions when specific areas are closed or have limited access during filming sessions. We appreciate your understanding in helping us share the beauty of our Cathedral with a broader audience.
