Promoter The promoter of this competition is St Albans Cathedral, Sumpter Yard, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL1 1BY. 2. Competition The competition is to design a logo for Alban 150, the 2027 anniversary year marking 150 years since St Albans became a cathedral and 150 years since the creation of the Diocese of St Albans. 3. Eligibility 3.1 The competition is open to residents of the UK unless otherwise stated. 3.2 Entrants under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian. 3.3 Employees of St Albans Cathedral, members of the judging panel, and their immediate family members may enter but are not eligible to win, at the Cathedral’s discretion. 3.4 Unless otherwise stated, only one entry per person is permitted. 4. Opening and closing dates 4.1 The competition opens on Saturday 18 April 2026 4.2 The closing date for entries is Friday, 19 July 2026 4.3 Entries received after the closing date may not be considered. 5. How to enter 5.1 To enter, entrants must submit: a logo design for Alban 150 a short explanation of the design concept of no more than 150 words their full name email address phone number where applicable, parent or guardian contact details 5.2 Entries must be submitted in one of the following formats: JPEG, PNG or PDF. 5.3 The winning entrant may be asked to provide a higher-resolution or editable version of the design, such as AI, EPS or SVG, if available. 5.4 No purchase is necessary to enter the competition. 6. Entry requirements 6.1 Entries must be the entrant’s own original work. 6.2 Entries must not infringe the copyright, trademark, design right or any other intellectual property rights of any third party. 6.3 Entries must not contain unlawful, defamatory, offensive or inappropriate material. 6.4 Entries must not include stock logos, copied artwork, or other third-party content unless the entrant has all necessary rights and licences for the Cathedral’s intended use. 6.5 If artificial intelligence tools have been used in the development of the design, the entrant must ensure that the final submission can lawfully be assigned, adapted, reproduced and used by St Albans Cathedral without legal restriction. The Cathedral reserves the right to reject entries where ownership or usage rights are unclear. 7. Judging 7.1 Entries will be judged by a panel appointed by St Albans Cathedral. 7.2 Entries will be assessed on criteria including: creativity relevance to the Alban 150 theme clarity and distinctiveness suitability for use across print and digital formats adaptability for different applications 7.3 The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 7.4 St Albans Cathedral reserves the right not to award the prize if, in the opinion of the judges, no suitable entry is received. 8. Prize 8.1 The winning entrant will receive: 1 x £100 St Albans Gift Card 4 x tickets to an event of the winner’s choice under Luke Jerram’s Gaia installation 4 x tickets to the St Albans Cathedral Flower Festival 4 x tickets to Lessons and Carols Fast Track Entry to Carols on the Hour a Cathedral merchandise goody bag the opportunity for their design to be used across Alban 150 events, publications, the website and selected merchandise 8.2 All event tickets are subject to availability and the relevant event terms. 8.3 The prize is non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered. 8.4 St Albans Cathedral reserves the right to substitute any element of the prize with another of equivalent value if necessary. 9. Intellectual property and use of the winning design 9.1 The entrant retains ownership of their entry unless and until selected as the winner. 9.2 By entering the competition, all entrants grant St Albans Cathedral a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display their entry for the purposes of administering, judging and promoting the competition, including on the Cathedral’s website, social media channels, printed materials and exhibitions. 9.3 The winning entrant agrees, as a condition of accepting the prize, to assign to St Albans Cathedral all intellectual property rights in the winning design, including copyright, so far as permitted by law. 9.4 St Albans Cathedral shall have the right to reproduce, publish, adapt, amend, digitise, resize, re-colour, combine with other elements, and otherwise use the winning design in any media, including print, digital, signage and merchandise, worldwide and for the full period of such rights. 9.5 St Albans Cathedral reserves the right to make reasonable modifications to the winning design to ensure that it works effectively across different formats and applications. 9.6 The Cathedral will aim to credit the winning designer where practical, but this cannot be guaranteed in every instance. 10. Publicity 10.1 By entering, entrants agree that if they are selected as the winner, St Albans Cathedral may use their name, likeness and details of their entry for publicity connected with the competition and Alban 150. 10.2 The Cathedral may ask the winner to take part in reasonable publicity activity related to the competition. 11. Disqualification 11.1 St Albans Cathedral reserves the right to disqualify any entry that: breaches these Terms and Conditions is incomplete, illegible or corrupted is suspected of plagiarism infringes third-party rights contains misleading or false information 12. Liability 12.1 St Albans Cathedral accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete, corrupted or not successfully received for technical or other reasons beyond its reasonable control. 12.2 To the fullest extent permitted by law, St Albans Cathedral shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered by any entrant arising from the competition or from acceptance or use of the prize, except where caused by negligence or other liability that cannot be excluded by law. 13. Cancellation and changes 13.1 St Albans Cathedral reserves the right to cancel, suspend or amend the competition or these Terms and Conditions where necessary due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control. 13.2 Any material changes will be published on the competition webpage. 14. Personal data 14.1 Personal data supplied as part of the competition will be used for the administration of the competition, contacting entrants, judging, and where relevant, announcing the winner. 14.2 Personal data will be processed in accordance with applicable UK data protection law and the Cathedral’s privacy policy. 14.3 Personal data will not be used for marketing purposes unless the entrant has separately agreed to this. 15. Governing law 15.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. 15.2 Any disputes arising in connection with the competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
