Annual Volunteers Evensong The Cathedral was filled with gratitude and music last night as it hosted its annual Volunteers Evensong, celebrating the invaluable contributions of volunteers within the cathedral community. Held at 5pm on Wednesday 4 June, the service offered a moment of reflection, recognition, and appreciation for the many individuals who give their time and talents to support the Cathedral's mission and daily life. This years’ service was marked by a special visit from the newly appointed Mayor of St Albans, Councillor Teresa Heritage, who joined the congregation in honouring the spirit of volunteerism as part of National Volunteers’ Week. The Evensong featured choral music, prayers, and readings, all in the setting of the atmospheric Quire. During the service, volunteers were thanked for their dedication. Part of a prayer from last night's evensong can be found below: Gracious God, we give thanks in this National Volunteers Week for all who give of their time and talents generously shared in the service of others. We give thanks for Julia and Sarah who oversee the 550 volunteers here in this holy place and for those who offer welcome, care, teaching and creativity for the benefit of our congregations, pilgrims and visitors. May we be inspired by their example to build the bonds of fellowship, care and generosity that builds up community and strengthens our common life. We give thanks for the Mayor, District Councillors, local charities and organisations and all those we are privileged to partner with the serve alongside.
