Archbishop Oscar Romero is one of the modern martyrs in our Cathedral’s Nave screen and is remembered by the church on 24 March each year. This year for our annual commemoration, which took place last Sunday, we were delighted to welcome Fr Luis Orlando Perez, SJ, as our preacher.  Fr Luis shared with us his extraordinary work as a Humanitarian Rights lawyer and Jesuit priest supporting families in Mexico whose children have ‘disappeared’.  Fr Luis noted that this includes over 100,000 young people recorded so far.

This year marks 46 years since Archbishop Romero’s murder and we were inspired again by him and Alban standing for justice with courage. Fr Luis’s message reminded us also that the same work for justice, and to be people marked by courage and compassion, remains desperately needed across our world today.  It was wonderful to be joined for this service by members of the Archbishop Romero Trust and our ecumenical colleagues and friends.
