Cathedral Bids Fond Farewell to Departing Choristers This past weekend, the Cathedral community gathered at Choral Evensong to mark the valedictions of several choristers whose time in the choir has come to a close. These occasions are a moment of reflection and gratitude, recognising the commitment, discipline, and joy that chorister life brings not only to the young people involved but to the whole life of the Cathedral. The Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore, Dean of St Albans, shared: "Week by week our choristers lift the prayers of this community in music. We thank each and every chorister for their service, and their families who so generously support them and the Cathedral. As we have said a special thanks, and farewell, to senior choristers this weekend, we wish them every blessing in all that lies ahead, in their music making and in all their pursuits. This is always their Cathedral and so we look forward, also, to keeping in touch." During Saturday’s service, the Cathedral gave thanks for Nova, Amelia, Beau, Eva, Lucille, Elsie, and Isabelle, who were formally released from their duties. The Dean presented each chorister with a book and offered a blessing, followed by appreciative applause from the congregation. Director of Music, William Fox, said: "It has been a privilege to watch the girl choristers mature as musicians and leaders. Nova, Amelia, Beau, Eva, Lucille, Elsie, and Isabelle have each brought their own spark to the choir, and we send them on with pride." At Sunday’s Evensong, the same moment of recognition and release was marked for Alby, Leo, and James, who have each contributed to the rhythm and strength of the Cathedral’s musical life for over 20 years between them. Again, their exceptional contribution was celebrated with applause from the congregation following the Dean’s words and blessing. Mr Fox added: "Alby, Leo, and James have set a fine example to the younger boys through their commitment and musicianship. We are grateful for all they have given and wish them well for the next stage of their lives." Another chorister, Reuben, concluded eighteen months of service earlier this term and was also warmly thanked and wished well by the Cathedral community. As another choir year draws to a close, the Cathedral gives thanks not only for those choristers who have completed their time, but for the continued dedication of the full choir, including the lay clerks, chaperones, and members of music staff. Particular thanks are also due to all the choir families—and especially the parents of this year’s valedicted choristers—whose quiet commitment underpins the life of music and worship at St Albans.
