Cathedral Lay Clerk promotes message of Peace A special moment was marked at St Albans Cathedral as Lay Clerk Philip Salmon shared his ongoing role as a Messenger of Peace, reflecting his commitment to reconciliation and unity. As part of this, Philip holds the Universal Flag of Peace with Dean Jo, a powerful symbol of global harmony established by the Pacis Nuntii movement in Argentina. Philip, a professional tenor, has worked extensively in Argentina, where his musical career has helped him build relationships that foster dialogue and understanding. His recognition as a Messenger of Peace is closely tied to his connection with veterans of the Falklands/Malvinas War and his dedication to promoting reconciliation between communities. Reflecting on the occasion, the Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore, Dean of St Albans, said: “Philip’s work as a musician has allowed him to build connections through the universal language of music. His role as a Messenger of Peace is a reflection of his dedication to fostering understanding between people. We are pleased to recognise this as part of his wider contribution to our community.” Philip also shared his thoughts on the importance of this small moment: "I am very happy to have this opportunity to highlight the activity of the Pacis Nuntii movement in this their 40th anniversary year, with heartfelt thanks to Dean Jo. I was privileged to be welcomed into the community of Argentinian war veterans in the spirit of conciliation, peace and unity, whatever past differences there may have been, and the Universal Flag of Peace holds an increasing significance in a world of growing conflict." The Universal Flag of Peace, first introduced in Argentina, features a dove carrying an olive branch over a borderless world, symbolising the unification of humanity beyond national divides. The flag embodies the values of peace, justice, and harmony with nature—principles at the heart of Pacis Nuntii. Philip’s role as a Messenger of Peace serves as a poignant reminder of the impact individuals can have in building a more peaceful world. As the Cathedral continues its mission of welcome and reconciliation, his work stands as an encouragement to all who seek to foster peace in their own communities. Manage Cookie Preferences
