Cathedral Music Trust Supports St Albans’ Musical Outreach St Albans Cathedral is delighted to be among 27 cathedrals and churches across the UK to receive support from the Cathedral Music Trust as part of a major £470,000 investment in cathedral music. The funding, awarded through the Trust’s Cathedral Music Support Programme, is designed to strengthen music departments and help ensure the future of this much-loved and vital tradition. This year’s awards include grants for both new initiatives and the continuation of existing multi-year projects launched in 2024. At St Albans, we’re thrilled that this funding will support our newly created Assistant Director of Music and Partnerships role, a post held by Dewi Rees. This innovative position blends the responsibilities of an assistant organist with a wider remit to grow musical outreach across the diocese – sharing the joy, beauty, and inspiration of our choral tradition beyond the Cathedral walls. William Fox, Director of Music at St Albans Cathedral, said: “We are enormously grateful to the Cathedral Music Trust for their generosity in supporting our new Assistant Director of Music and Partnerships post. This forward-looking role combines a traditional assistant organist position with new partnerships work, allowing us to share our musical tradition more widely throughout the diocese.” The Cathedral Music Trust’s commitment to excellence in church music, and its recognition of the challenges currently facing music departments across the country, make this support especially timely and meaningful. “The invaluable work of our cathedral and church musicians enriches the lives of both participants and the communities in which they operate. At a time when the sector faces numerous financial challenges, this much-needed investment demonstrates Cathedral Music Trust’s dedication to securing the future of our world-renowned tradition.” Jonathan Mayes, CEO of the Cathedral Music Trust We are proud to continue offering exceptional music here at St Albans Cathedral – not only in our worship and special services, but also in the lives and communities we serve throughout the diocese.
