A beautiful weekend in September saw the revival of Choir Camp for our choristers. Begun under former Master of the Music, Dr Peter Hurford, choir camp was a legendary part of musical life at the Cathedral for many years. For our boys and girls, the weekend at the Chellington Centre offered a perfect mix of music-making, team building, and fun – an ideal way to begin the choir year together.

We enjoyed being based at the Chellington Centre, a converted 12th-century church overlooking the Bedfordshire countryside. With space for rehearsals, games, outdoor activities, and even campfires, it was the perfect base for setting the tone for the year ahead.

The weekend followed a full and lively schedule. From rehearsals and team challenges to a workshop with the girls’ singing teacher Paula Sides, there was plenty of variety. Meals were prepared under the watchful eye of our recently departed choristers. Evening highlights included toasting marshmallows on the campfire, following hours of football and games around the site earlier in the day.

Above all, the camp embodied the spirit of community and collaboration that makes our Cathedral Choir so special. On their return to St Albans our choristers wanted to know one thing – when the next camp would be!
