More than sixty local charities and community organisations came together at St Albans Cathedral on Saturday for this year’s Community Showcase — an annual event that celebrates local service, volunteering, and partnership.

The Cathedral Nave was full of organisations, volunteers, and interested newcomers!

With 61 groups represented and strong public attendance, this year’s Showcase was the Cathedral’s busiest yet. The day was filled with energy, conversation, and new connections. Many charities reported meeting new volunteers, forming fresh partnerships, and even establishing links with local funding and commissioning bodies.

Among the many visitors were the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire and the High Sheriff, who both praised the breadth of community work represented and the unique role the Cathedral plays in bringing people together.

Christopher Lyal, one of the organisers, said:

“There was a really good feeling about the event, with excitement and genuine interaction between groups and visitors. Several organisations recruited new volunteers and forged new partnerships on the day. One participant told us, ‘You have to do it again — it’s too important not to.’”

Fr Will Gibbs, Canon for Mission and Pastoral Care, added:

“The Showcase is a wonderful expression of what community looks like in action — people of every background working for the good of others. We’re proud that the Cathedral can provide space for those connections to grow and flourish.”

The organising team is now gathering feedback and already planning for next year’s event, which looks set to return by popular demand.
