Since its inception in 1996, the girls of the Cathedral choir have sung God’s praises in this ancient place, contributing immeasurably to the Cathedral’s worship, its musical reputation and the lives of all who have worshipped here.

A special Festal Evensong at 4pm on Sunday 14 June will bring together choristers past and present, celebrating the choir’s legacy while looking to the future. The service will recognise not only musical excellence, but also the friendships, discipline, faith and confidence that choral singing nurtures in young people.

Calling all former Girl Choristers

As part of these celebrations, the Cathedral is keen to reconnect with former members of the Girls’ Choir from across the past 30 years.

If you sang as a Girl Chorister at St Albans Cathedral at any point since 1996, we would love to hear from you. Whether your time in the choir was recent or many years ago, you remain part of this living tradition, and we warmly invite you to be involved in this anniversary celebration.

Former choristers are encouraged to get in touch to register their interest and receive further information about how they can take part.

A lasting legacy of music and worship

Girls were introduced to the Cathedral choir to give girls equal access to the rich inheritance of the English choral tradition, and over three decades it has flourished. The girls have shared the singing of the daily and special services with the boys of the Cathedral Choir, made recordings, premiered new works and performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues.

Above all, the girls have played a vital role in the daily worship of the Cathedral, offering music to the praise of God and helping to create moments of stillness, beauty and transcendence for all who enter this sacred space.

All are welcome

The Festal Evensong is open to all. Whether you are a former chorister, a regular worshipper, a supporter of Cathedral music or simply curious to experience a special service in a unique setting, you will be warmly welcomed.

Former Girl Choristers are especially encouraged to get in touch to ensure they are part of this landmark celebration.
