Future Choristers Shine at Cathedral’s Be A Chorister Days Over the past two weekends, St Albans Cathedral has welcomed over 100 young singers and their families to its highly successful Be A Chorister For A Day events. With 54 boys attending one Saturday and 50 girls the next, both days offered a unique and immersive experience of life as a chorister. The afternoons were packed with musical games, the chance to learn new songs, a guided tour of the magnificent Cathedral, and the opportunity to meet current choristers. The highlight of each event was a special 5pm Evensong, where participants joined the Cathedral Choir in leading worship—a truly unforgettable moment for all involved. The Dean of St Albans, the Very Reverend Jo Kelly-Moore, expressed her delight at the enthusiasm shown by the young singers: "It has been a joy to see so many young people experiencing the magic of choral music in our Cathedral. Music is at the heart of worship here at St Albans, and ‘Be a chorister for a day’ is a wonderful way to share that tradition with the next generation. The level of talent and enthusiasm we’ve seen over these two weekends is truly inspiring, and we hope to see many of these young people join our choir family in the future.” William Fox, the Cathedral’s Director of Music, was equally thrilled by the success of the events: "Our Cathedral Choir is a place of musical excellence, but also of friendship, learning, and joy. Seeing these boys and girls take part so wholeheartedly, and then hearing them sing Evensong so beautifully, was a really special moment. We’re excited about the future and look forward to welcoming new voices into the choir in the years to come." With such strong engagement from young singers and their families, Be A Chorister For A Day has reaffirmed the Cathedral’s commitment to nurturing musical talent and ensuring a bright future for its renowned choral tradition.
