The sixth night of Hanukkah was celebrated with a vibrant community gathering at St Albans Clock Tower, led by Rabbi Daniel Sturgess. Among the participants were the Mayor of St Albans, Councillor Jamie Day, MP Daisy Cooper, Dean Jo Kelly-Moore and members of the wider community, all united in the lighting of the Hanukkah candles.

Dean Jo reflected on the significance of the evening, saying,

“Together we celebrated being in a season of ‘counting the nights’ and declaring that the light of God’s love will not be overcome by the darkness of the world. We committed ourselves to let that light shine through us together for our community.”

The inspiration for that commitment was made clear by the presence of the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and a family from Israel, who also participated in the candle lighting. The event concluded with the traditional sharing of donuts, adding warmth and joy to the occasion.

As the community continues to celebrate Hanukkah, all are warmly encouraged to reflect on the message of hope and unity that this season brings. St Albans Cathedral extends heartfelt wishes to its Jewish friends for a happy and peaceful Hanukkah.
