Moonlit Jazz: Sold-Out Success Jazz in the Moonlight This past Saturday, our Nave was brimming with people as they enjoyed a stellar evening of jazz beneath the glow of Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon installation. The Cathedral’s Adult Learning team, who delivered this sold-out jazz concert to an audience of nearly 700, were delighted to host an ensemble of top-tier jazz performances from some of the UK’s most respected musicians. The ensemble was led by the incredibly talented Tim Boniface on saxophones, and he was joined by James Pearson, masterful pianist and artistic director of the world-famous Ronnie Scott’s in London; Malcolm Creese, one of Europe’s foremost double bass players, whose experience includes collaborations with jazz legends Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine; and Jon Ormston, a drummer whose infectious creativity has earned him a spot in London’s Jazz Orchestra, City of Birmingham Orchestra and many others. The ensemble was truly at the top of their game, performing a seamless blend of moon-themed melodies, and this night proved to be more than just a concert — it was a celebration of talent, creativity, and the power of live music. These top-class musicians also performed two powerful pieces from their latest album Psalter: Themes for Peace, composed by Tim Boniface and premiered at the Cathedral last year, and revealed that this stunning record is now nearly ready for release.
