Two young singers took a significant step in their musical journey at St Albans Cathedral on Sunday as they were formally admitted as full choristers during Evensong. Harri and Mineth were welcomed into the Cathedral Choir by the Dean, the Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore, who proudly declared them to be the newest choristers in the world.

The Admission ceremony marks an important moment for choristers as they take on the responsibilities of full members of the choir, leading worship through music. Revd Vanessa Jefferson, Precentor, expressed her delight at their admission:

“It was a joy to admit Harri and Mineth to the Cathedral Choir at Evensong. The Admission marks the next step of their chorister journey as they take on the responsibilities of full choristers in leading our worship together. We were delighted to welcome them and their supporters in celebrating this achievement and look forward to all that they will bring to the choir through their time as choristers.”

Director of Music, William Fox, also celebrated the occasion:

“It was wonderful for us to celebrate Harri and Mineth’s admission as choristers. We are all excited to see them on their journey here.”

The service featured Kenneth Leighton’s Second Service and Edgar Bainton’s And I Saw a New Heaven.

The Cathedral Choir continues to flourish thanks to the dedication of its members and the unwavering support of choir parents and families. Their commitment, time, and encouragement make it possible for young choristers to take part in such a rich and rewarding musical tradition.

As Harri and Mineth embark on their journey as full choristers, the Cathedral community looks forward to the contributions they will bring to worship through their voices and dedication to the choral tradition.
