The new St Albans Blue Plaques Trail officially launched this week, offering residents and visitors a chance to explore the city’s rich history through commemorative plaques and stories. Accompanying the trail is a detailed guide brochure, now available at the Welcome Centre and other key locations across St Albans.

The trail  features several plaques near the Cathedral, including the latest addition honoring Margaret Wix, the first female Mayor of St Albans in 1924. Margaret Wix’s connection to the Cathedral runs deep, as her family worshipped at the Cathedral.

Dean Jo was among those in attendance and reflected on the significance of the initiative, stating, “One of the great things about St Albans Blue Plaques is the way they are inspiring young people as they learn the stories of the people of our city.”

The Dean joined Tim Boatswain, Chair of the Blue Plaques Project, in hosting senior students and Head Teacher Mrs. Claire Gibbs from Margaret Wix School. Together, they celebrated Margaret Wix’s achievements and her enduring legacy.

The launch marked a vibrant celebration of local heritage while encouraging exploration and learning. Visitors are warmly encouraged to take the trail and stop by the Cathedral as they discover more about the city’s heritage.
