We are delighted to share with you that Oliver Morrell, our Organ Scholar here at St Albans Cathedral, will be moving to Winchester Cathedral to take up the position of Sub-Organist.

Oliver graduated in 2021 with first-class honours from Durham University, having spent three years as Organ Scholar at Durham Cathedral. He also spent a year singing with the choir at Gloucester Cathedral, and more recently played at Croydon Minster as Acting Sub-Organist before joining us at St Albans.

“I am delighted to be joining the team at Winchester, and play a part in its rich and distinguished musical tradition. I have been incredibly fortunate to gain experience at cathedrals and churches with significant choral foundations, and I look forward to bringing what I have learned to the worshipping community at Winchester. I would like to thank the Dean and Chapter for a wonderful two years at St Albans Cathedral." - Oliver Morrell

The Dean of St Albans Cathedral, The Very Revd Jo Kelly-Moore,  said:  'It has been a delight to have Oliver as our Cathedral Organ Scholar for these last two years. Oliver is an excellent organist, conductor and singer and has been a very popular member of our music department staff team and in our congregation. Our Choristers will miss Oliver’s ability to amuse them with endless games! As Oliver’s organ scholarship concludes here at St Albans this summer, it is a great credit to him that he has been appointed as Sub-Organist at Winchester Cathedral. We thank Oliver for his service, wish him well, and we know that Winchester Cathedral will be blessed by his gift of music.’

We look forward to welcoming our new Organ Scholar, Conor McGlone in September.
