Peals on Wheels On Saturday 12 July, 31 members of the St Albans Cathedral Bellringers headed off on their much-loved annual summer outing — a full day of ringing, laughter, and time together across some beautiful towers. The group rang at five churches: St Mary’s, Amersham (12 bells) All Saints, High Wycombe (12) Christ Church, Oxford (12) St Edburg’s, Bicester (10) All Saints, Leighton Buzzard (12) Between towers, there was plenty of time to enjoy each other’s company and reflect on the shared rhythm and focus that make bellringing such a rewarding experience. The day included a relaxed riverside lunch at the Head of the River in Oxford, with sunshine, good food, and a lot of laughter. For those unfamiliar, bellringing is a unique combination of mental challenge, physical rhythm, and teamwork. It doesn’t require musical training — just a willingness to learn and be part of something bigger than yourself. It’s social, surprisingly meditative, and keeps both mind and body engaged. At its heart, ringing is about working together in harmony. The annual outing is a long-standing tradition, giving ringers the chance to explore different bells, deepen friendships, and share in the joy of a craft that’s been part of English culture for centuries.
