The community of St Albans Cathedral is delighted that Organ Scholar, Conor McGlone, has become an Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO). We are especially proud to share that Conor has been awarded the top exam prizes – the Limpus, Shinn and Durrant prize, the Doris Wookey prize, and the Dr F. J. Read prize.

"This is a great achievement for Conor and we at the Cathedral warmly congratulate him on his success."  Director of Music William Fox

Associateship of the Royal College of Organists indicates ‘a standard of professional competency in organ playing technique, essential keyboard skills, and interpretative understanding. It also indicates accuracy in aural perception and fluency in those written disciplines (standard stylistic techniques and analysis of performance and historical issues in relation to organ repertoire) which support practical musicianship.’

Speaking about his achievement, Conor said:
"I am delighted to be receiving my ARCO diploma with top prizes including the Limpus prize. The ceremony on Saturday at Southwark Cathedral was a joyful occasion celebrating the achievements of myself and others, a highlight was the stunning recital from the international concert organist Isabelle Demers. RCO examinations are a holistic test of one’s practical and theoretical abilities as a musician, and I am grateful to St Albans Cathedral for supporting me in taking the written and practical papers at the start of this year."

Director of Music William Fox commented:
"This is a great achievement for Conor and we at the Cathedral warmly congratulate him on his success."

The Organ Scholarship at St Albans Cathedral offers an ideal opportunity for aspiring organists to develop their skills and gain valuable experience in a vibrant and busy music department. The next scholarship post will begin in September 2026.
