On Wednesday 16 October join Dr Robert Beckford as he explores themes of social justice in the gospel music genre in the UK.

Dr Robert Beckford is an academic and broadcaster based in Birmingham. and has written numerous books on black theology and culture in Britain.

‘Music is at the heart of the life and witness of our nation’s Cathedrals. Music expresses what we believe about God, about our world and about ourselves. In this Black History Month we are delighted to welcome Dr Robert Beckford to St Albans Cathedral as we seek honestly to ask whether we can still hear the prophetic voice of Gospel music calling out the reality of prejudice and calling us all to build a just world.'

The presentation will detail prophetic interpretations of the New Testament themes of Incarnation, Magnificat and the Holy Spirit as gospel music tracks.
